Super Nintendo (Super NES)

Super NES USA version on My Emulator Online

The Super Nintendo is a 16-bit home video game console released in 1990 (Japan), 1991 (USA) and 1992 (Europe) launched by Nintendo. Also known as Super Famicom or SFC (japanese name), Super NES or, simply, SNES, the console had a 16 bit processor (running at max 4Mhz), 128 KB RAM and a color palette of 32768 colors. Most popular video games are Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, FIFA, Chrono Trigger or Street Fighter 2.

The successor of the NES came to defeat the new 16-bit Sega Genesis console (AKA Mega Drive). Both fought a cruel battle, the 16-bit one, of which the SNES was victorious (in terms of sales).

49.10 million SNES units were sold worldwide, with 23.35 million of those units sold in the Americas and 17.17 million in Japan. Although it could not quite repeat the success of the NES, which sold 61.91 million units worldwide, the SNES was the best-selling console of its era.

And now, thanks to online emulators and websites like “My Emulator Online”, you can play ALL Super Nintendo retro video games in your browser in a quick and easy way!

Sega Genesis / Mega Drive

Sega Genesis on My Emulator Online

The Sega Genesis (AKA Mega Drive outside the US) is a 16-bit desktop home video game console developed and sold by Sega Enterprises, Ltd in the 80’s and 90’s. The Genesis was Sega’s third console and the successor to the fabulous Master System. It had a Motorola 68000 16-bit microprocessor clocked at 7.6 MHz, 64KB RAM and and a color palette of 512 colors. It competed directly against the Nintendo SNES, as part of the fourth generation video game consoles. The first version of the console was released in Japan in 1988, succeeded by the release in North America under the rename of Genesis in 1989.

The Genesis hardware was adapted from the Sega System 16 arcade board, centered on a Motorola 68000 processor as the primary CPU and a Zilog Z80 as the second processor. The system houses a library of more than 900 games created by Sega and a large series of third parties, being published in cartridge format. The Genesis benefited from various peripherals and online services, as well as multiple variations of the console by Sega itself and third companies in order to expand its functionality.

In Japan, Mega Drive did not fare well against its two main competitors, the Nintendo Super Famicom and the NEC PC Engine. However, he achieved great success in North America, Brazil, and Europe. Adaptations of its arcade game library, the popularity of its exclusive Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, various popular sports game franchises, and an aggressive marketing campaign for young people all contributed to its success. The launch of Super Nintendo Entertainment System two years later, led to a fierce battle to gain the largest market share in the United States and Europe, which has been occasionally referred to as the “console war” by journalists and historians. Some other popular Genesis games are Street Fighter 2, Streets of Rage, Altered Beast, Comix Zone, Golden Axe, and many more.

Nintendo 64 (N64)

Nintendo 64 retro gaming console

The Nintendo 64 (AKA NINTENDO64, N64 or ニンテンドウ64 / Nintendō Rokujūyon in Japan) is the fourth video game console produced by Nintendo, developed to succeed the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and to compete with the Sega Saturn and the Sony PlayStation.

The N64 incorporates a 64-bit main processor in its architecture. The storage media for the games is in the form of cartridges, most of them with internal memory. The use of this type of storage was a serious commercial disadvantage compared to its competitors, as it increased production costs, which increased the final price, and also had a lower storage capacity than a CD-ROM. Most popular N64 games are Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, GoldenEye 007, and many other.

The Nintendo 64 included in its controls some buttons arranged in cross specially designed for the user to take control of aspects of games based on 3D environments (control of the perspective of game or cameras, for example), which were used by first time for the game Super Mario 64. It also included an analog stick, which allows different degrees of movement. It also had a vibration function thanks to the peripheral Rumble Pak.
