The most addictive game ever!

Tetris Games

Since its conception and release in 1984, perhaps no game has been played on by more people or featured on as many different consoles and computers as Tetris. Each new game might have the odd new feature or slight graphic change but the basic single player game of Tetris will always remain the same. Initially starting life on the Electronika 60 before popularizing on the Nintendo Game Boy and featuring on every major console after, while most recently appearing on PS5, XBOX Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. My emulator brings a perfect variety for fans of the game.

Where else to start but with the original classic Tetris? It’s as basic as it is brilliant. In case you have somehow never played Tetris, it’s simple to get into. Place the randomly chosen tetromino shapes to the bottom of the screen to create rows of lines which then disappear. But if you don’t create those lines the blocks will build up to the top until you can’t continue. And you start again. And again. And again. You will want to keep playing forever.

Tetris 2 focuses more on the colours of the blocks to clear in a way that is not dissimilar to Dr. Mario which is also worth checking out as a cool kind of Tetris spin-off. The third SNES game adds Super to its name and again focuses on bombs and colours like the second game. New modes include Sparkliss – bombs can take out lots of bricks – and Magicaliss – bombs can destroy all blocks of one colour.

Tetris Attack on SNES is a whole new game altogther though. It’s a version of the Japanese game Panel de Pon but with more Mario-inspired artwork. It has gone on to feature on several Nintendo consoles as Puzzle League and focuses on arranging blocks in rows of three or more to clear them. Not dissimilar to modern mobile games such as Candy Crush.

Tetris Worlds on Game Boy Advance only has minor tweaks to the original in story mode but does feature many two-minute Tetris games in ‘Arcade Mode’. Games such as Square Tetris, Cascade Tetris, Hot-Line Tetris and several more add new gameplay to keep you coming back for more.

The Nintendo 64 featured four Tetris games and you can play three of them on My Emulator! Tetrisphere is the most different from the original and should be praised for trying something new with the standard formula. The object is to reveal the core by stacking similar shaped blocks on top of each other. Once three are stacked, they disappear.

The New Tetris is my personal favourite Tetris game but doesn’t feature too much new except for being able to create different sized squares for bonuses. The style and graphics look fantastic though. The last of the Nintendo 64 games is Magical Tetris Challenge which not only adds a few new modes of play but features a story mode with Disney characters.

Unsurprisingly given its title, Tetris Party Deluxe’s main attraction is its many game modes and there’s plenty of variety. From bombs to helping a mountaineer reach the top to a racing style game where you guide blocks through a maze to the ‘master’ mode. In Master mode the blocks appear from the bottom and you have a second to decide where they go.

Coming full circle is Tetris DS. In keeping with the original and 8-bit style it’s one of the best versions of the game. New themed modes of Nintendo games including Mario, Yoshi’s Cookie, Metroid, Zelda and Donkey Kong. There’s so much on offer it’s easy to see why it’s so well-liked.

For such a simple game, Tetris offers so much variety and it’s all her for you to enjoy!
