Digimon Games

Digimon as a franchise often gets unfairly compared with Pokemon. Though the two series do share some common elements and mechanics, Digimon differs in a number of crucial ways. In addition, some of the spin-offs have explored genres not touched by its rival, Pokemon. If you are one of the fans of the various anime series, or if want to begin to check out this series of games, MyEmulator has a number of titles to choose from so you can get started.

The majority of Digmon games were developed and published by Namco Bandai, and as such a few of those games were released on Japanese-exclusive handheld console, the WonderSwan Color, a console that was itself created by Namco Bandai. Those games, including Digimon Battle Spirit and its sequel, were then ported to the Nintendo Game Boy Advance.

Digimon Battle Spirit is a fighting game that has a number of similarities to Super Smash Bros in terms of its fast-paced action with exploration and platforming elements. The first Digimon Battle Spirit draws its characters from the Digimon Tamers anime, whilst its sequel, Digimon Battle Spirit 2 is based on the Digimon Frontier anime series.

If you want to see Digimon characters in a kart racer (or Mario Kart Characters here), here is your opportunity with Digimon Racing. Players compete against seven CPU-controlled opponents to determine who is the best racer in the Digital World, utilising attack items and ‘kart hopping’ to slow down opposition drivers. Curiously, digivolving is also featured, as players can pick up energy to allow the Digimon racer to evolve into stronger forms, eventually enabling a special super attack.

For those looking for a more traditional adventure style Digmon game, MyEmulator has a few entries in the Digimon Story series available, including Digimon World DS, where players can discover, raise and tame Digimon, sing a location called a Digi-Farm to evolve and communicate with their Digimon. The plot is loosely based on the Digimon Data Squad (also known as Digimon Savers in Japan) and follows a human child pulled into the Digital World to fight an evil entity known only as ‘Unknown-D’.

Another part of the Digimon Story series is Digital World Dawn and Digital World Dusk, both of which are available to play. The story varies somewhat depending on which version is played, but the main plot concerns a strange virus sweeping the Digital World and causing many powerful Digimon to revert back into Digi-Eggs. The task of the player is to uncover the mystery and help save the Digital World.

Layers who want to focus solely on the Virtual Pet aspects of Digimon should take a look at Digimon World Championship. This game eschews the RPG and world exploration elements to provide a more focussed experience. Players will need to feed, heal and clean up after their partner Digimon. Unlike other games in the Digimon series, in a battle, the player cannot choose the attacks a Digimon makes, and instead has to hope they have done a good enough job of raising and training that their Digimon will make the correct choice.

There is a lot of Digimon to choose from on MyEmulator, whether you feel like some fast-paced fighting action, zooming past rivals in your kart, or a more traditional turn-based RPG. There are a number of unique characters and worlds to explore. If you’re a fan of the anime, want a hit of nostalgia or you want to try out something new, its all here.
