Shrek Games

For over two decades, Shrek has been a cornerstone of the animated movie world. Delighting audiences from across the globe with irreverent, pop-cultural humor set in a charming fantasy world, the franchise has won countless awards and the hearts of generations of viewers. It’s only fitting, then, that Shrek would branch out into other fictional mediums. Including the whole reason you’re here at MyEmulator — video games! While there were numerous games released for home consoles like the PS2 and GameCube, the series truly thrived on Nintendo DS, where some of the zaniest concepts in Shrek history were explored. It’s here, on the Big N’s dual-screen handheld, that some of the wildest tales in the realm of Far Far Away are explored. Like a good donkey, MyEmulator carries plenty of these gaming gems like some kind of pack mule!

Shrek Super-Slam is a 2005 fighting game that proves just how versatile the saga of a lovable green ogre can be. When most people think about Shrek, we tend to fixate on his bumbling, good-hearted ways, not an all-out brawler that pits iconic characters against him like nobody’s business.

The irreverence of the franchise is on full display in the game’s intentionally silly plot. Donkey wants the Dronkeys to go to sleep already so that he can watch a show called Survivor: Sherwood Forest. One thing leads to another, and somehow we have the setup for a 3D -environment multiplayer fighting game where up to four players duke it out playing fan favorites such as Shrek, Fiona, and Puss in Boots!

Continuing to illustrate just how diverse Shrek can be is Shrek Smash n’ Crash Racing. It revels in its absurdity; if you think Mario Kart is goofy, wait until you see what Donkey can do in his four-legged kart! Combat abilities are just as integral to your success in Smash n’ Crash Racing as racing skills, but every character’s notion of combat differs in hilarious ways.

Shrek the Third is Activision’s officially-licensed video game tie-in to the 2007 blockbuster movie. With a soundtrack from Winifred Phillips of LittleBigPlanet fame, the understated quirkiness of the inhabitants of Far Far Away is wonderfully realized. With 20 linear levels to storm through and some surprising easter eggs like a cameo from DreamWorks’ Madagascar movie, this is an action-packed way to spend an afternoon or two here at MyEmulator.

After Shrek the Third’s more traditional approach to licensed video games, along came Shrek: Ogres & Dronkeys… a pet simulator! It’s Shrek’s task — and thus yours — to raise adorable (and terribly mischievous) Dronkeys, teach them how to get along with each other, and ultimately venture off to explore some familiar Shrek locales for hidden items. The game’s tough to find these days and a curiosity among fans of pet sims, making MyEmulator an excellent free alternative to spending too much cash to see what all the fuss is about.

Shrek Forever After returns to the tried-and-true practice of direct film adaptations, but with an interesting twist: it’s better-regarded among gaming enthusiasts than the movie it’s based upon. That’s not to say the movie’s bad, but wouldn’t it be more fun to play it? Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and Puss in Boots are all playable.

But what really makes this shine is that up to four people can partake at once! While it might be more than a bit tricky to get four players in on one free game at MyEmulator, there’s an option to have the rest of the squad tag along with you making Shrek Forever After a genius way to see Shrek and friends one last time. Travel across worlds, solve head-scratching puzzles, and rough-and-tumble your way to a better tomorrow for two ogres and their precious heroic pals.
