Most heroic tales ever imagined.

Comics Games

Comic books have a long, storied history full of some of the greatest and most heroic tales ever imagined. Primarily represented by superheroes, comics are hugely influential in media beyond graphic novels - just look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s box office dominance, or the expansive fan campaign for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Comics have made their mark in games, too. That’s something that started a few decades ago in arcades and continued on every game system since. Here at MyEmulator, you can check out plenty of retro titles based on comics - and we’re not limited to superhero games, either, so some of your favorite mascots (say hello to Garfield) are represented in force.

You can start off with a well-received, popular adventure from the SNES days: Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage. Based on the 1955 Rabbit Rampage animated short, the game follows Bugs through fights with a predictable rotation of classic Looney Tunes villains. A love letter to classic Looney Tunes shorts from back in the day, Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage is a great game for fans of classic Looney Tunes. Looney Tunes fans can also check out Daffy Duck, a Game Boy action platformer that follows popular character Daffy Duck on a quest to take down Marvin Martian. The game earned a lot of praise for its design and was noted for its punishing difficulty. Finally, for another fun platformer based on a fan-favorite icon, check out Garfield’s Funfest, a 2008 DS title based on a CGI movie of the same name.

If you’re looking for something a little darker, you can try out Chakan: The Forever Man, based on the dreary comic of the same name. Burdened by eternal life, Chakan is a master swordsman traveling the universe, hunting down supernatural evil. Chakan: The Forever Man ties its dark plot to fittingly unforgiving gameplay, with loads of levels, timers, and punishing action-platforming gameplay. The game stands out among both other comic book games and other games of that era in general, enjoying a bit of a cult following even today.

Fans interested in involved narratives and dark battles can also try out the N64 cult classic Shadow Man, an action-adventure romp that takes players through two realms, Liveside and Deadside, in a quest to vanquish a supernatural legion of serial killers. Based on the Shadowman comics by Valiant Comics, the game is noted for its difficulty, engaging story, and fun gameplay.

Of course, we’ve barely scratched the surface of the excellent games that comics fans can play on MyEmulator. Anime fans should check out Jump Super Stars, a crossover DS fighting game featuring several popular Japanese characters from series like Death Note, Bleach, Dragon Ball, D.Gray-man, and many more. The game only ever released in Japan, so now is your chance to give it a shot. MyEmulator also has plenty of games representing some of your other favorite characters, like Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters on DS, The Adventures of the Smurfs on Game Boy Color, Johnny Test on DS, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan, and a series of games in the Asterix & Obelix franchise.
