NBA Jam (SNES)
Professional Basketball was a great hit during the 1990s and it’s only natural that video games ride along with it. NBA Jam was one of them and ruled them all. It easily gathered a cult following and hardcore 16-bit gamers still remember how good it was. Midway had a really successful game on their deck. This game, in our opinion, is one of the most addictive basketball games for the Super NES!
Fast and furious. That’s the only way to describe NBA Jam’s gameplay and control. Those who have less than normal reflexes might shy away from this game as it calls for quick thinking and even quicker pressing on the gamepad. Only two players per team are on the court and the game moves at constant blinding speed. Controls are laid out perfectly and use the full range of buttons available on the SNES gamepad. Presses keep up with the breakneck pace of the game and there are no hiccups to be noted.
This game was a graphics phenomenon when it was released. It showed what the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was capable of. While other developers remained with cartoon characters, Midway opted for the game characters to look very much like their famous human counterparts. To accommodate this heavy burden on the graphics processor of the console, only two players are available per team. But this doesn’t take away the sheer fun that is to be had from NBA Jam.

Music is usual and the famous riff from NBA is carried over to NBA Jam. The sportscasters’ commentaries add spice to the game. These are all to be expected since the game is officially licensed by the basketball association. Special effects for super and bizarre moves are on point and hilarious.
NBA Jam is aimed not only for the sports gamers but also those who just like a good video game that calls for fast reflexes. It’s entertaining, gorgeous, and fun.
NBA Jam has been ported to Arcade, SNES (this version), Sega Genesis, Game Gear, Game Boy and Sega Mega CD.
