Animaniacs (Sega Genesis)
Animaniacs (AKA アニマニアックス Animaniakkusu in Japan) is a 1994 2D side-scrolling platform video game developed and published by Konami for the Sega Genesis 16-bit console. It is a video game adapted from the animated television series of the same name.
In the game, the Warner siblings — Wakko, Yakko, and Dot — want to open a shop containing their collection of a variety of items used in movies released by Warner Bros. Studios. They go to different movie sets to collect memorabilia that they can sell. However, Pinky and the Brain try to steal the memorabilia to further their plans of world domination.
The gameplay is quite simple: You have an action button, and then you jump, move, and switch Animaniacs. The Warners each have their own abilities. Dot is the only girl, and as the beauty, she kisses things. Her ability can be surprisingly useful, such as stunning a vampire. Yakko is the biggest among them, so he pushes and pulls blocks. He also attacks their enemies using his signature paddleball. Wakko is the brains among the siblings. He knows that some things simply have to be hit using a hammer. Some other important puzzle elements that he uses include bomb fuses, switches, and elephants. He is certainly the most used character when it comes to puzzles.
Defeat Pinky and the Brain
There are four levels that are quite distinct from one another. The player can enter these levels in any order. A few puzzles need to solved so you can proceed. When you reach the end of the level, you have to defeat the boss to get a piece of memorabilia from the movie set. Animaniacs can be really difficult, but it is fun to play. At first, you may find controlling the character to be confusing, but you will easily get the hang of it.
The music is clear, sounds great, and matches the environment you are in. It may not be the type that you would listen to on your mp3 player, but it will not bore you during the game. The graphics are nice and the animations of the characters are fitting.
While playing this game is better when you know the characters, it is still an entertaining and well-designed game. Animaniacs for Genesis is for you if you like puzzles and older platforming.
Animaniacs game has been ported to Sega Genesis (this version), SNES and Game Boy.
