Tecmo Games

Back in the retro days, Tecmo had one particular claim to fame that you probably came to this page looking for: the excellent action-platforming series Ninja Gaiden. However, Tecmo had a bit more going on than just its ultra-challenging ninja adventure, and while we’ve got your Ninja Gaiden fix ready for you, you might want to stick around for a while and check out MyEmulator’s entire Tecmo catalog, peppered with retro goodness and fun. Beyond Ninja Gaiden, you can check out a host of sports titles (including the anime soccer classic Captain Tsubasa series), another action-platformer in Rygar, the puzzling Fire ‘n Ice, and more.

Of course, Ninja Gaiden headlines the whole Tecmo catalog. At MyEmulator, you can play the NES original versions of Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos, and Ninja Gaiden 3: The Ancient Ship of Doom, or you can hop into the SNES port of the whole trilogy. Each title in the trilogy tasks the player with using an extensive arsenal of ninja weaponry and abilities to sneak, fight, and gracefully traverse through a host of levels. These games are famous for their brutal difficulty, but don’t let a daunting challenge stop you from giving the games a try. Each Ninja Gaiden title is still lots of fun, and if you manage to actually beat one, that carries some serious bragging rights.

If you like sports games, you’ll want to stick around MyEmulator’s Tecmo page for a while. Retro sports titles are an excellent way to see how gaming and your favorite sports leagues have evolved over time – classic titles like Tecmo Cup and Tecmo Bowl are practically unrecognizable compared to modern giants like FIFA and Madden, but they’re absolutely worth checking out. Rounding out Tecmo’s sports catalog are titles like Tecmo NBA Basketball, which let you play as older teams and players that once dominated professional basketball, and the more fantastical Captain Tsubasa series, which successfully combines soccer and anime for dazzling results and a long-running series.

There’s even more to Tecmo than Ninja Gaiden and sports. If you’re a platforming fan, your work is never done: once you’ve beaten the Ninja Gaiden trilogy, I highly recommend that you take Rygar for a spin. Rygar, which pits a resurrected warrior against an ancient evil, shines behind its main weapon, a throwable shield with Captain America vibes (though Rygar needs a chain to pull the shield back in after throwing it). Puzzle fans, meanwhile, can check out Fire ‘n Ice, otherwise known as Solomon’s Key 2, which forces players to think their way through challenging levels in which blocks of ice must be used to extinguish a whole bunch of fires. Finally, if you like shoot ‘em ups, give Aero Fighters a try. Aero Fighters enjoyed brief fame as an arcade title back in the day, but the SNES port, which you can check out here at MyEmulator, does a good enough job at showing you what you’ve missed.
