Go, Go, Power Rangers!

Power Rangers Games

For decades, that chant has been a formative piece of our childhoods. Whether you’ve never seen an episode of the series or you’re an all-star fan of the franchise, the theme song to Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers is iconic. Perhaps you’re of a generation who grew up with original series stars Jason, Tommy, Kimberly, and the gang. Or maybe you’re much younger, and your introduction to the franchise was during the Disney era or later. Whatever the case may be, there’s a certain warm and cozy vibe about the notion of a plucky group of relatable teenagers saving the galaxy that makes Power Rangers a perennial favorite. But did you know the Rangers have a storied history within the realm of video games as well? For as long as there have been Power Rangers TV shows, video game publishers have been racing to keep up, adapting on-screen high-octane adventure into interactive entertainment. Finding these hidden gems on the secondhand market, however, can be as difficult as laying waste to wicked Rita Repulsa’s best-laid plans.

You guessed it: that’s where MyEmulator comes in. We’re committed to maintaining a legacy of Power Rangers games that’s as rich and layered as the franchise itself. Here’s what we have available for your playing pleasure right now, but check back for more as our library grows!

Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie is, unsurprisingly, based on the 1995 feature film of the same name. We host the SNES version, a side-scrolling action game that can be enjoyed with one or two players. Billy, Kimberly, Tommy, Rocky, Adam, and Aisha. Interestingly, each stage begins with a Ranger’s civilian persona, giving a rare glimpse in the gaming industry into the more mundane side of the heroes’ lives.

Players battle Lord Zedd’s Putty Patrols through seven stages, all of which end with a boss. The bosses are a motley crew, with the first five being from the original show’s second season, the sixth being an entirely original creation, and the seventh and final one being Ivan Ooze from the movie.

In Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue for the Nintendo 64, developer Mass Media Inc. takes the Rangers to the next level with 3D gameplay and voice clips from the actual Lightspeed Rescue actors and actresses. The result is a far more engrossing adventure, but one that didn’t exactly ring true in the minds of its contemporary critics. It was lambasted for its awkward controls and stiff animations, but then, that’s just it — all the harsh talk has made Lightspeed Rescue a very desirable product among old-school gamers over the years who wish to judge the maligned title for themselves. With the old cartridge so hard to come by, you’re better off giving it a spin here instead!

It wouldn’t be a collection of free Power Rangers games without some vintage handheld offerings. Ninja Storm, for the Game Boy Advance, is a side-scroller with fan-favorite attacks like Hawk Blaster, Navy Antler, and Shuriken Spin. For those whose first taste of this legendary franchise was decidedly ninja-esque, there’s no better thrill than disabling your foes with a well-timed Sonic Spin.

Even better, every boss has a normal-sized form followed by a Megazord-sized form, meaning you get to relive a full-fledged episode. The technical difficulties involved in creating compelling massive showdowns has prevented many Power Rangers games from shining as brightly as could be, but Ninja Storm provides in spades.

Lastly, there’s Power Rangers: Super Legends for Nintendo DS. And what a game it is. Fans of the show’s first fifteen (whoa!) seasons are treated to an all-star spectacle with plenty of the most well known Rangers, as well as some unexpected cameos from more niche faces. Clever puzzles and mission-based adventure band together to make this one of the toughest Power Rangers games ever made, and it’s right here at MyEmulator today.
