I have to give a special nod to Windjammers, one of my favorite games out there for local multiplayer. It’s a simplistic Air Hockey-style game involving some particularly extreme frisbee antics. Toss the frisbee back and forth with extreme speed, using straight shots, wall-bounces, and special moves in order to push the frisbee past your friend and into the goal. Fast-paced matches and difficult, high-stakes volleys set the scene as you and a friend go at it over and over and over again, racking up points and bragging rights every time you manage to sneak the frisbee between the goalposts. Windjammers is bright, colorful, and very addictive. It’s the gem of the Data East library if you ask me.

Of course, Data East has put out plenty of gems beyond Windjammers. Arcade fans may remember spending weeks and weeks of allowance in a single session of Rampage or Burger Time, for example. While wildly different from one another, these two arcade classics have tons of fans, and Data East deserves its share of credit for that after porting both of these arcade greats to the NES. MyEmulator has these NES versions of Rampage and Burger Time ready for you right now, so give them a try – no quarters required.

Data East has also put out enjoyable platforming experiences such as the Joe & Mac trilogy, which covers the NES and SNES with some lovable prehistoric action-platforming. If you love colorful, stylish retro platformers that can really pack a punch, then be sure to check out the Joe & Mac games as quickly as possible. You could also check out the lesser-known High Seas Havoc, a spunky action-platformer with endearing pixel art and some crafty nautical levels.

Puzzle fans can check out Magical Drop II, a game that tasks players with firing colorful bubbles into an encroaching wall of bubbles. Match three bubbles of the same color together, and they’ll pop. Stay alive for as long as possible by making sure that the bubbles do not reach the bottom of the screen. It’s a simple and familiar style of game, but a fun one nonetheless.

While I’ve laid out a wonderful list of games here, that hardly even scratches the surface of what Data East has to offer. Be sure to check out the rest of the Data East catalog here on MyEmulator, which features titles like Shadowrun, Spin Master, Dragon’s Lair, and plenty more.
