Bubble Bobble Games

If there is one thing that video games have taught us, it is that bubbles can sometimes be the most powerful weapon. At least, that is what the iconic Bubble Bobble series would have us believe as you blow these little pockets of air to trap enemies, ascend to higher platforms, and save your girlfriends as a pair of dragons. It’s the kind of whacky concept that could have only originated from the arcades of the mid-eighties. Still, the Bubble Bobble series has seen a long and proud history of games spanning console generations and different genres. Let’s explore some of the best Bubble Bobble games that you can currently play for free on your browser on MyEmulator.Online.

The original Bubble Bobble saw a Nintendo Entertainment System released in 1988, and this home console port did a marvelous job capturing the zany multiplayer fun from the original arcade game. While the game is still delightful in single-player, it shines whenever you hook up a second controller and go on the 100-level journey with a friend. The gameplay mechanics are novel and lend themselves well to the game’s design. The controls are as tight as possible, and the levels are challenging without feeling overwhelming.

Bubble Bobble 2 was a late release for the NES in 1993 and maintained much of the core gameplay as the first game. One main difference was the ability to float to higher platforms by holding down the B button, making movement across the levels feel far more dynamic and liberating. The graphics have also improved notably, with more diverse backgrounds and detailed character sprites. It is a bit disappointing that multiplayer-only alternates between each player from level to level, instead of both players playing at the same time, but that shouldn’t detract from what is still a strong entry in the Bubble Bobble series and one that should be played by anyone who is looking for a hidden gem from the 8-bit era.

One of the most popular spin-offs from the Bubble Bobble franchise has to be Puzzle Bobble – known internationally as Bust-a-Move. The original arcade game received a port for the Super Nintendo called Puzzle Bobble – Bust-a-Move. In this game, you fire different colored bubbles at the top of the screen, trying to match the right colors together before the bubbles reach the line at the bottom. It’s a fast-paced puzzle game that is always a blast to pick up and play anytime.

Jumping forward a bit, we have Bubble Bobble: Double Shot for the Nintendo DS. This game refined the classic arcade gameplay by splitting the level between the DS’s dual screens, allowing for more room and bubble action. There are three playable characters in this game – Bub, Bob, and Bubu – each shoots out a differently colored bubble. Certain enemies in the game can only be trapped using inevitable colored bubbles or a combination of two different colored bubbles, which is why the game allows you to switch between the three characters on the fly. There is also three-player multiplayer, so you can enjoy the game with a couple of your friends.

Bubble Bobble has earned its reputation as a true classic from the arcade era, but the story of Bub and Bob hardly ends there. With so many great games in the series–whether the traditional multiplayer platformers or the addictive puzzle spin-offs – now is the time to experience everything Bubble Bobble offers on MyEmulator.Online.
