Sparkster (AKA Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2 or スパークスター Supākusutā in Japan) is a 2D is a side-scrolling platformer video game developed and published by Konami for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and released in 1994. It is an awesome platform game!

Sparkster was released in the Super Nintendo (SNES) by Konami back in the early to serve as Nintendo’s own animal mascot not unlike Sonic for the Sega platform. The game, called Rocket Knight in previous titles, is a possum who wears a suit of armor with a rocket pack strapped to his back, hence the name.

The controls were simple and navigating the levels using the rocket pack was a total blast. The rocket pack allows players to dash at nearly every direction. It operates in a similar way to Mega Man’s dash in that it propels you towards a direction at accelerated speeds. However, the pack can be charged to cover longer distances and could actually be used in different directions, unlike Mega Man’s dash that only allowed him to move forward.

Being a possum also allowed Rocket Knight to hang upside down and slide from certain surfaces. The gripping mechanic of the game along with the rocket pack allowed for a great deal of movement that was unique for Sparkster.

Sonic the Hedgehog usually just moved forward and zipped around the level based on how the environment was laid out. Sparkster gives the player more control and urgency to how he can go around the level. It takes a greater deal of skill and timing to move around the levels.

The story was simple enough, there’s a bad guy who has kidnapped a princess and is holding her hostage and it’s up to Sparkster the Rocket Knight to save the day. What set the game apart from other similar platformers is that it gave the player three different endings depending on the chosen difficulty.
