Secret of Mana (SNES) – Free and unblocked game (NO ROM) to play online

Squaresoft’s Secret of Mana (AKA Seiken Densetsu 2) is an action role-playing game (RPG) developed by Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) as part of the Final Fantasy Adventure series (Mystic Quest). However, it was not marketed as part of the Final Fantasy series when it was released in 1993. Instead, it was released as part of the Mana series. And the story begins…

Like the other games in the Mana series (or other Square games), the story of Secret of Mana is centered on the mysteries and secrets of the Mana Tree, which is the source of a powerful energy called “mana”. In this game, there are only three playable lead characters that possess their own specialties and capabilities. These characters journey and fight their way to protect the Mana Tree from those who seek to control and abuse the power of mana.

Also, these three characters can be played simultaneously by three different players. So, the Secret of Mana is a multiplayer action RPG, which makes it very popular among multiplayer gaming fans.

Like other RPG games by Squaresoft, Secret of Mana is set in a fictional, high fantasy world which can be navigated and explored using maps. Along their journey, the lead characters get to meet and talk to other characters, obtain objects or items, find new places, and face enemies in battles. The battle system in this game, however, is not turn-based like the other RPG’s.

The battles in Secret of Mana take place in real-time, which mean that the characters can perform combat actions without waiting turns. The players only need to select the weapons they wish the characters to use. The battle screen displays power bars that show how much damage is inflicted on an enemy or character.

An attack gauge is also shown, which empties whenever a character releases an attack and recharges to prepare the character to attack again at full strength. While the gauge is not yet full, the character is not able to attack at full strength and can only inflict little damage to the enemy. This is referred to as a “tapped” condition.

The goal of the lead characters’ journey is to defeat the ancient sorcerer, called Thanatos, who plans to create a “new” world using the mana seeds.

The world of Secret of Mana is created in 2D, with a Mode 7 enhancement in the map view while the characters are traveling on Flammie, a miniature dragon.

Secret of Mana was well-received in the North American market as part of the Final Fantasy Adventure series. This makes sense since the most attractive feature of the game that piqued the gamers’ interests is the three-multiplayer capability, which is rarely seen in RPG’s. Not only one player gets to enjoy the action roles, but three. Amazing, isn’t it?

Secret of Mana has been ported to SNES (this version), iOS, Android, Nintendo Virtual Console and a 3D remake of the game been announced (2017) for Switch, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows and PlayStation Vita.
