Puzzle ActRaiser (SNES) – Free and unblocked game (NO ROM) to play online

During its release way back in 1990, ActRaiser (AKA アクトレイザー Akutoreizā in Japan) for the Super Nintendo was considered cutting-edge. There’s no game like it—being both a sim and a platformer. Well, truth be told, it’s the only game since that has this unique formula.

In ActRaiser, you’ll be playing as The Master, a deity who wishes to rid the land of evil. It isn’t as simple as snapping your fingers though. You have to first regain and increase your power through worship and belief.

This is most obvious in the game’s sim portions. You’ll prevent conflicts, grant selfless requests, and lots more. With each success, you’re granted an offering that you could use in helping others.

It’s impressive that the game’s developers captured humanity’s nature in a realistic way. It isn’t all about noble goals and quests, as there are subplots that involve greed and even tyranny.

While the system itself is fairly complex, the controls aren’t really difficult at all. If you’ve played games like SimCity or Theme Hospital in the past, you’ll feel right at home.

Developers tend to specialize in things and so, it’s okay to expect that the game’s platforming isn’t up to par. Surprisingly though, Quintet (the team behind ActRaiser) managed to create flawless platforming sections as well.

Not only are all the levels quite detailed, the controls are definitely responsive. There’s that snappy feel when jumping from one ledge to another. Attacks are easily carried out and land with precision.

Even the boss fights are truly satisfying. Not only does each fight have its own pattern that you’ll have to discover, but there’s also this link between the bosses and the designs of their respective stages.

While there’s no denying that Quintet and Enix’s creation is unique, that doesn’t automatically mean that it’s great. Fortunately, it does tick all the right boxes—and the game is really synonymous with excellence.

If you’re hunting for retro titles to play or collect, you shouldn’t miss the chance to try ActRaiser firsthand. It offers an experience so unique and groundbreaking that even today, no developer has tried to follow suit.

ActRaiser game has been ported to the SNES (this version), iOS, Android and Nintendo Virtual Console.
