Faxanadu (NES) – Free and unblocked game (NO ROM) to play online

Faxanadu (AKA ファザナドゥ Fazanadu) is a 1987 adventure RPG-platform video game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Here, you play as a nameless elf and your goal is to protect the World Tree. This Tree was inspired by the mysterious Tree from Norse folklore, but it was redesigned as an oversized planet where the dwarves and elves live.

The game received lots of positive reviews, with experts calling it better than The Legend of Zelda and Castlevania.

After the journey, you will come back to your hometown located at the bottom of the World Tree to fix several things. Everything is in chaos: The monsters attacked the town, and the villagers are poisoned and dying.

Faxanadu has nice graphics. Each spell and sword have unique animations. The sprite of the unnamed elf will change as well, depending on his clothing. Weird monsters and the unusual environment of the game enhanced the visuals. However, the colors used in this game were extremely drab. While it was about the game’s plot, the developers perhaps went too far in making this game look ominous and dark.

The controls respond well, but a few design issues are noticeable in the jumping mechanism. The jumping model used in other games like Super Mario Bros. is nice, but the one used here is different — gamers have struggled to adjust.

A few of the songs in this game are great, while the rest are not. However, Faxanadu stands out when it comes to background music and sound effects. You will enjoy these lovely tunes again and again.

You will see a collaboration between the gameplay and the game’s user interface. The result of that collaboration is perfect. The accurate, tight controls make the game more enjoyable while the loose, disordered controls or rare mechanics can ruin the game’s overall look and feel. Its platform suffers from the eccentric jump mechanics, and the gameplay becomes more boring. The floaty, odd jumping makes the monsters more difficult to defeat.

If you are a fan of RPGs and you want one for your NES, then Faxanadu may be the right choice for you. It has many good things to offer with a few shortcomings that will not really affect your overall gaming experience.

Faxanadu game has been ported to NES and Virtual Console.
