Garou: Mark of the Wolves (NEO-GEO)
Garou: Mark of the Wolves (AKA Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves or 餓狼 MARK OF THE WOLVES Garō Mark of the Wolves, “Hungry Wolf: Mark of the Wolves” in Japan) is a 2D versus fighting video game developed and released by SNK for the Neo Geo console in 1999. It is the 8th instalment in Fatal Fury series. The game offers single-player and multiplayer game modes.
The two-plane system is no longer featured in this game. Instead, it introduces a special zone on the life scale called the Tactical Offense Position or T.O.P. When the scale reaches this zone, the characters will enter T.O.P mode which enables them to use the special T.O.P attack. Also, with this mode, the characters will get other special skills, such as advanced attack damage and steady life recovery.
The game also features a system called Just Defend. This system rewards gamers who effectively block attacks and manage to win despite having low health. Gamers who quickly counterattack during a block stun will also receive rewards.
Players receive a fighting rank after each round. They’ll face Kain R. Heinlein if they win in all rounds from the game’s Arcade mode with an AAA rank. When players defeat Kain, he will open a special ending for them. If players don’t succeed, Grant will be the ultimate boss and the game will end without a special ending.
The game begins by telling the story of Southtown. It’s been 10 years after the crime lord named Geese Howard died, and Southtown has become more peaceful. The city that was tainted by Geese is now called the Second Southtown. The new fighting match called King of Fighters: Maximum Mayhem begins. Different characters with connections to fighters from previous tournaments joined the competition.
Garou: Mark of the Wolves has better graphics than the previous versions of the game. Also, it does not support the “Neo Zooming” feature, so the images stay smooth and crisp.
The controls for this game are tight. Gamers will have fun while playing using the Pro Controller with D-Pad. They can also use Joy-Con analog stick for a more enjoyable gaming experience if the other control option is unavailable.
With all these things, Garou: Mark of the Wolves is indeed a nice game for Neo-Geo. It offers great graphics and more characters to choose from. So, if you’re into fighting games, don’t miss the chance to try this classic.
Garou: Mark of the Wolves game has been ported to Arcade, NeoGeo, Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Live Arcade, iOS, Android, PlayStation Network, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch.
