Pac-Man World 3 (NDS)
Pac-Man World 3 (AKA パックマンワールド3? in Japan) is the 3rd version of the famous Pac-Man World. The game has improved graphics and more action than the previous two games.
Pac-Man looks great and animates well in this game. However, the 3D engine struggles to keep up with the gameplay, showing noticeable but not irritating slowdown and weak draw distance. The backgrounds are awfully dull and will repeat every 3 or 4 levels.
The background sound is just right, like on all Pac-Man games. Each sound effect is loud and clear.
You cannot control Pac-Man when he moves because the game has no touchscreen control options. As an alternative, you can draw circles on the screen to activate the spinner plates through the levels. Likewise, you need to look after the camera, which will be fine if you can angle it up and down to see clearly all upcoming jumps. Unfortunately, the camera is not working well, especially when you are in a tiny space like the elevator shaft.
Pac-Man World 3 for Nintendo DS has a great 3D platformer, but it is all mixed up, and the platform elements showed up jumbled. The mission goals are insufficient and unclear. The gameplay is not that broken, and the overall design is not that poor, but this game looks technically weak. Its poor technical side ends up affecting the performance in general.
The entire 14 levels are quite long. Perhaps, you will take several hours to finish them, but that includes a few restarts. VR Maze, the extra game mode, is a slight encouragement to return and gather the fruits since you can play it straight from the game’s main menu.
Pros & Cons
- 14 lengthy levels
- A few awesome platforming elements like wall jumps and trampolines
- Short but great VR Maze mode
- Bad level designs
- A horrid camera that has no vertical controller
- With many useless collectibles
- With lots of buttons and backtracking
Pac-Man World 3 has a good basic control, but the horrid camera, low textures, invisible walls, and last-ditch touch screen application will disappoint most gamers. However, the game tries to satisfy the players with its improved graphics and animations.
The game has been ported to PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, Nintendo DS (this version), Sony PSP, Windows.
