Streets of Rage 3 (Mega Drive) – Free and unblocked game (NO ROM) to play online

Streets of Rage 3 (AKA Bare Knuckle III or ベア・ナックルIII in Japan) is a 2D side-scrolling beat ’em up video game developed and published by Sega for the Genesis console (Mega Drive) in 1994. It is the third installment of the SOR saga, after Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2.

In the game there are five different characters to choose from with each having its own unique set of moves and different stats. It must be mentioned that the blue boxer shorts boxing kangaroo has to be without a doubt the most interesting character on the selection screen.

Players can destroy the background or beat up their enemies in order to acquire weapons. These weapons are the typical weapons that players who are familiar with the genre would have been familiar with such as pipes, knives, and bats.

The soundtrack is actually good, and is probably the most flattering thing that can be said about Streets of Rage 3. The game’s soundtrack was developed by Yuzo Koshiro who made an entirely new audio language from scratch just to make the game’s soundtrack. If only such innovation and effort went into making the rest of the game.

The plot is pretty vanilla. A bad guy has come to the scene. He has a plan to control the city by replacing key officials with robots controlled by the mysterious and ominous figure known only as Mr. X.

Streets of Rage 3 can be frustrating to play at times, but this is mainly due to the concept or idea behind the genre. Playing a beat ’em up game by placing characters in a pseudo 3D plane with an isometric view was always a difficult concept. There are many instances in this game where a player misses a punch because they are just a few inches away from the wrong part of the x axis.

All in all, Streets of Rage 3 is a good example of the beat ‘em up or brawler genre, but has little to offer, other than being a good example of a tried and tested formula. Nevertheless, fans of the genre would really enjoy giving this game a try.

Streets of Rage 3 game has been ported to Mega Drive / Genesis (this version), GameCube, Virtual Console, iOS, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network.
