Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden (Mega Drive) – Free and unblocked game (NO ROM) to play online

Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden (AKA ドラゴンボールZ 武勇烈伝 Doragon Bōru Zetto Buyū Retsuden, Dragon Ball Z: Intense Martial Transmission in Japan or Dragon Ball Z: L’Appel du Destin in Europe) is a 2D 1vs1 fighting video game based on the Dragon Ball franchise developed by TOSE and released for the Sega Genesis (AKA Mega Drive) in 1994. A game for all Goku fans!

Dragon Ball Z, the manga, was great. Dragon Ball Z, the TV series, was good. But what about the video games? There were a lot of Dragon Ball Z releases from different gaming consoles and each one had mixed reviews from both gamers and hardcore fans of the saga. Sega Genesis decided to jump into the bandwagon and released their first and last DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden.

Setting Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden apart from the other releases from other consoles is the fact that it’s the only 16-bit version where Rikuum, Kuririn, and Ginyuu are playable. It was what Super Nintendo’s Super Butoden 3 should have been and featured characters from each saga combined with a wide variety of attacks and special moves.

Moving and working with the characters were incredibly easy, which on its own is enough reason to get this game. Unlike other games where gamers need to twist an arm to execute special moves, Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden’s can easily be pulled off. Control response is solid and almost perfect.

Even with all the technology shortcomings of the Sega Genesis, Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden is a really good game, graphics wise. The characters were recreated as close to the original as can be and their special moves were awesomely animated. The backgrounds are just right and do not distract from the gameplay. The endings are epic too.

Sound effect has not really been the forte of most, if not all Goku games. Voice overs can become irritating after some time as they are repetitive. Some of the music are up with the best, but the rest aren’t something to write home about.

With all its flaws, Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden is still a great game for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. Including the more obscure characters of the saga worked well. It had decent graphics, catchy music, and excellent gameplay.
