Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 (GBA)
Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 (AKA Super Mario: Yoshi’s Island – スーパーマリオ ヨッシーアイランド Sūpā Mario: Yosshī Airando in Japan) is a 2002 2D side-scrolling platform video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance (GBA). It is the remake of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island for the SNES (1995). It was followed by Super Mario Advance 4 (SMB 3).
In terms of virtual gameplay, Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 is almost the same as the original version. It holds the magic and some tricks that have been popular in the past series. However, what makes this Game Boy Advance (GBA) portable version is the updated sounds and more exciting levels to overcome.
The game is focused on Yoshi’s Island where players can explore all the nooks and crannies of the levels just to find collectible items. In order to reach the final level, you first need to collect all the items. Yoshi and his group are set to reunite Luigi with his beloved brother and family.
To win this daunting task, the player needs to master the unique skills of Yoshi. For instance, you have to learn his tongue abilities to be able to beat the enemies. The gameplay mechanic basically supports exploration of the environment, while making sure that you’re using your eggs appropriately.
Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 is an exciting adventure to experience because of the graphically beautiful island. But if you’re not wise in using your eggs, you will miss out the bonuses. There are secret areas and hidden items to discover while exploring the challenging environments.
Mario is back… Again.
Taking care of Baby Mario may be cute, but if you stumble upon instant-death hazards, you will lose the game. You can still survive even if you mislay Baby Mario temporarily. He will float off a bubble while a timer starts to count down. If you do not get the baby back before the time runs out, the minions will take him away.
The fair mechanic of Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 allows players to commit some mistakes while feeling a level of urgency to correct them right away to avoid losing. The smoothing function of GBA screen makes it more fun to play Yoshi’s Island.
Overall, the Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi’s Island provides a deep exploration gameplay combined with a slightly arty style. Despite the release of this retro game many years ago, it remains an entertaining GBA game for kids and the young at heart. Just make sure you have the egg-based skills of Yoshi to win the final level.
Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 game has been ported to GBA and Virtual Console.
