Mario Kart – Super Circuit (GBA)

Mario Kart – Super Circuit (AKA Mario Kart Advance – マリオカートアドバンス Mario Kāto Adobansu in Japan) is a 2001 kart racing video game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the GBA. The game is the third instalment in the Mario Kart series and the first for handheld consoles, following Mario Kart 64 (1996) and preceding Mario Kart DS.

You need to finish the laps as first placer in order to get gold trophies. It’s slightly sensitive to drive the car and requires more finesse so you can master the game. Also, the environment offers great diversity, which makes it even more challenging.

The list of characters is conservative, unlike the ones in modern Mario Kart games. It offers a great selection of 8 familiar faces including Yoshi, Bower, Wario, DK, Toad, Peach, Luigi, and Mario. In terms of vehicle handling, some characters seem more approachable compared to the others. While playing the game, it can be noted that Mario Kart – Super Circuit is the most difficult game in the series.

You need to get a hold of the controls as well as the powersliding move. However, you can use Pro Controller to make the gaming experience much easier and more enjoyable. Backlighting and screen angles make a great difference. The Single Player comes in three modes, namely: Quick Run, Time Attack, and Grand Prix.

A great retro kart video game

If you don’t want enemies bumping into your car or launching projectiles in your direction, then you can play Time Trial because it’s a solo race. Courses are simply designed without a lot of moving pieces or obstacles to dodge. What makes it fun to play is the imaginative themes with striking colors that bring Mario Kart: Super Circuit to life.

For the fans of the SNES original, playing Super Circuit on GBA is a better version. That is because of the Pro Controller that offers a larger screen and more visuals. Overall, the Mario Kart – Super Circuit is a fun and satisfying experience, which is now 13 years old.

Super Circuit is an excellent successor to the Super Mario Kart series. If you’re looking for a race type retro video game for GBA consoles, this is a great option for you.

Mario Kart – Super Circuit game has been ported to the Game Boy Advance.
