Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age (GBA)

Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age (AKA 黄金の太陽 失われし時代 Ōgon no Taiyō: Ushinawareshi Toki) in Japan) is a 2D adventure role-playing game (RPG) developed by Camelot and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) console in 2002. It is, in our opinion, one of the best GBA games of all time!

The story of Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age takes place immediately after the end of the game’s predecessor, Golden Sun. The storyline is quite interesting as this time around, you will be playing from the point of view of the previous game’s antagonist, Felix. You will also take control of Felix’s brother, Jenna, who was kidnapped at the beginning of the previous game.

The story in this sequel is largely connected to that of the previous game. In fact, there is a long recap of past events in the game featuring the major scenes that happened in the prequel. Thus, the only the way to understand the game is to start from the first Golden Sun.

The game’s advanced graphics can be considered as among the finest on the Game Boy Advance. The stages and environments have decent features. The world map exhibits great details. The character sprites are surprisingly animated for a 2D game.

The soundtrack of Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age is excellent. It features a unique mix of several music styles. The background music fits both the stage and the scene. The sound effects are also sharp and satisfying. They complement the game’s visual effects. Indeed, the game was able to utilize the maximum capabilities of Game Boy Advance’s sound system.

Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age adopts the same gameplay applied on its predecessor. It uses turn-based combat system for normal fights and boss fights. There are also a handful of puzzles to solve in the game which are more difficult than those included in the previous game. There were a few changes in the abilities of the characters but they are fairly basic and you can get used to them easily.

The game is a major step forward for the Golden Sun series. It exceeded most players’ expectations in terms of several aspects, from storyline to gameplay. With its full package, Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age is worth every player’s penny and time.
