The game starts off with the story arc of Count Dracula being risen from the dead again by the character Camilla. The game starts off with Nathan Graves, and Morris and Hugh Baldwin. Morris is captured immediately leaving Nathan and Hugh defeated by the enemy. The character Nathan Graves is your playable character, while Hugh separates on his own mission to rescue Morris, his father.

The main objective of the game is to defeat Count Dracula. The character’s main weapon of choice is the whip, but you may also use secondary weapons such as a cross, holy water, axe, dagger, or a stopwatch. An important feature in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is the game’s magic system called Dual Set-up System or DSS for short. This lets your character have heightened abilities for a short period of time.

The DSS works by being powered by cards spread out in the game in which you have to collect in different areas. There are many types of cards to collect and each card you collect possesses different kinds of magic enhancements for the character.

It can range from attack spells, defensive spells, healing spells, or amplifying your characters capabilities like running at double speed. But the DSS relies solely on your character’s level and experience points, so to be able to access the DSS combinations you must first gain valuable experience points which is done through whipping through your enemies and defeating boss characters using the original main weapon provided.

Playing further into Castlevania: Circle of the Moon you can collect items as well on your adventure like armor to raise the stats of your character. Circle of the Moon delivers great graphics as well, with the only issue being is that the game itself is too dark so you may have to up the brightness in your Gameboy Advance.

The game also delivers a great soundtrack and sound effects, something which the Castlevania game franchise is known for. Overall the game itself proves to be challenging and entertaining for players who have been keeping up with the previous games in the series before this one.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon game has been ported to Game Boy Advance (GBA) and Virtual Console.
